The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York seeks an outstanding individual in the information and computing technologies area for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. Candidates working at the frontiers of uncertainty modeling and representation, grid, cloud, and cluster computing, multi-scale modeling and simulation, new simulation and visualization methodologies appropriate for emerging peta and exa scale architectures, data and information-driven discovery, or emerging modalities for human-computer interactions are encouraged to apply. The broad concept of enabling and understanding core discovery processes through novel information and computational methods are of particular interest. Specfic areas of interest include, fluid/thermal sciences, mechanics, materials science, bioengineering, design/optimization, and dynamics/control.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent, externally-funded, internationally-recognized research program, teach graduate- and undergraduate-level courses, develop new specialized courses, supervise graduate research and contribute to departmental affairs. The School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Buffalo is the largest and most comprehensive of the SUNY engineering schools. The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering has 26 full-time faculty. Over the past five years, we have conferred on average, 180 BS, 60 MS and 10 Ph.D. degrees a year.
